This program’s origins lie in the need for new entrepreneurs to carry on Forest County businesses whose owners wish to retire. The opportunities range widely from service businesses to lumber companies, restaurants, the trades, and others. Between providing local goods and services to residents and seasonal residents and serving the tourists who visit Forest County, the local opportunities for entrepreneurs are everywhere!
With the Internet, more and more businesses, workers, and freelancers can choose where they live while working for employers and customers all over the globe. We are fortunate that Forest County has the assets and quality of life to offer our youth that may keep them here while achieving success in their chosen careers!
Our goal is to encourage youth in the Forest Area Schools to consider entrepreneurship in Forest County as a career option, either after high school or after college or trade/technical school. The means of accomplishing this include working with the Forest Area School District and regional economic agencies to present opportunities to our youth, to encourage them to “think outside the box”, to help them assess and develop their interests and skills for entrepreneurial pursuits, to help them develop strong plans for their business concepts, and to develop a complementary package of support for those students who graduate with a ready-to-implement business plan.
